FNT-proBNP, specially made for cats, is used to assess the likelihood that they may be suffering from heart failure, especially if there is suspicion of heart disease or symptoms such as rapid breathing, fatigue or difficulty breathing. It measures levels of a precursor to natriuretic hormone, which is released by the heart in response to stress on the heart muscle.
High levels of TNF-proBNP in the cat's blood may indicate a cardiovascular problem, but the test must be interpreted in the context of other tests and the cat's medical history. The test is usually used in conjunction with echocardiography and other investigations to confirm the diagnosis.
NT-proBNP, a precursor of terminal brain amino natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), is mainly derived from the ventricles. It is the substance released by the myocardium when blood pressure and ventricular wall pressure increase. It is mainly used to assess myocardial function. TNF proBNP is more stable in the clinical trial. The higher the concentration, the greater the severity of heart disease.
